Ashling Gilbert is the founder and creator of The Camscura Company.
A recent graduate (2015) from Falmouth University in Contemporary Crafts, Ashling developed a unique way of looking at the Cornish Landscape, encouraging students, locals and visitors to see their favourite places in a new way.
She loves doing anything that involves her hands from painting and drawing to ceramics and woodwork but her passion lies in building small, tactile camera obscuras, which she has lovingly dubbed Camscuras. She is fascinated by their ingeniously simple mechanism and the effect they can have to draw people in and encourage them to engage with their immediate environment.
With recent installations at Trelisick Gardens and The Eden Project, thousands of people have had the opportunity to view their world from a new perspective.
Ashling makes Camscuras for private or public use. Made from a variety of materials in a range of shapes and sizes, Ashling will take both private and corporate commissions.
